"One of the worst heat waves on record has just ended in Southern and South-eastern Australia. Widespread and incredibly intense bushfires have ravaged the state of Victoria, causing loss of human lives, destruction of entire landscapes and placing a devastating toll on the wildlife in these areas.
The Australian Koala Foundation is closely monitoring the impact on koalas. Currently, the AKF does not have a clear indication of how many koalas have died or are injured. Information coming from the fire zones suggests great loss to the substantial koala populations in this region."
